I was reading an article from Yahoo! Philippines about the Philippines being the only country in the world that has no divorces when I suddenly read a paragraph that struck me.

Gonzi, who campaigned against divorce, said, “This is not the result I wished for, but the will of the people has to be respected and the parliament should enact a law for the introduction of divorce.” He added it was now up to the parliament to legalize the dissolution of marriage. I never heard any politician or public figure say something like that in the Philippines. Usually, when a new program or policy has been implemented, the opposing party will release several propaganda against the other party. I’ve never seen anyone from our country accept defeat and recognize the voice of the people.
